Duncan Laurence’s “Arcade” enters Billboard hot 100

It’s quite unique: a Eurovision song enters the American Billboard hot 100. Duncan Laurence’s “Arcade” will be on this weeks charts at no. 100. That is after the song became popular on the app Tik-Tok and Duncan Laurence’s performance on the Ellen show last week.

Duncan Laurence is not the first one to enter the Billboard hot 100. An overview:

1958 Domenico Modugno, “Nel blu dipinto di blu” (“Volare”), reached #1
1959 Domenico Modugno, “Piove”, reached #97
1963 Ronnie Carroll, “Say wonderful things”, #91
1968 Cliff Richard, “Congratulations”, reached #99
1970 Mary Hopkin, “Knock, knock, who’s there”, reached #92
1972 The New Seekers, “Beg, steal or borrow”, #81
1973 Mocedades, “Eres tu”, #9
1974 ABBA, “Waterloo”, #6
1976 Brotherhood of Man, “Save your kisses for me”, #27
1996 Gina G, “Ooh… aah… just a little bit”, #12
2021 Duncan Laurence, “Arcade”, #100

We left the coverversions out of this list but one should be mentioned: Paul Mauriat and his Orchestra reached the #1 spot in the Billboard hot 100 in 1968. It was a cover of the 1967 Luxembourgian entry “L’amour est bleu”,  sung by Vicky Leandros.

Congratulations, Duncan Laurence, for bringing an 11th Eurovision song in it’s original version in the Billboard Hot 100.
