Biography

Wilfried, actually Wilfried Scheutz, was an Austrian singer, songwriter and actor. When rock music took over the world in the 60s, he founded his first band, The Provos, at the age of 14. In 1970 Wilfried moved to Graz and started his musical career from there. In 1972 he qualified for the “Show-Chance 1972”. In 1973, he published “Ziwui Ziwui”, a rocky reinterpretation of an Innsbruck bird catcher song. He celebrated his greatest achievements in the 1970s and 1980s, including “Laufen Hasen”, which made him one of the best known representatives of the Austropop. From 1978 to mid-1979, Wilfried was singer of the Erste Allgemeine Verunsicherung (EAV). He can be heard on their debut album. He achieved a top ranking in the charts in the mid-1980s with his song “Südwind”. He celebrated one of his biggest commercial successes in 1987 with album and single “Ikarus”, which had been listed on the Austrian charts for three months, with a 6th place in the highest ranking.  In 1988 he represented Austria at the Eurovision Song Contest with “Lisa, Mona Lisa” at the Grand Prix d’Eurovision de la Chanson. Wilfried often performed as an actor in theater and film. He played in the early 1990s in the television series Die Leute von St. Benedikt. This was followed by many appearances as an actor. In 1996 he founded the a cappella group 4Xang. In the early summer of 2000, he launched together with 4Xang the ‘Jubel, Trubel, Heiserkeit-Tour’ on the occasion of his 50th birthday.  In 2010, the 4Xang group broke up.
In 2008, he published his first book, “BuchstabenBlues”, in which he summarizes short stories, poems, and life wisdom accompanied by a photo-life story. In 2009 he founded the jazz formation “Fathers’n’Sons” and opened the restaurant “Vereinsmeierei” with his wife. At the beginning of 2011 he and his son Hanibal Scheutz put together a new rock band, the “Neue Band”.

On July 16, 2017, Wilfried died of cancer at the age of 67.
