Biography

Springtime was an Austrian pop trio, established in 1975 by brothers Walter and Gerhard Markel and Norbert Niedermayer. The latter was a former member of the Milestones, with whom he had participated in the Eurovision Song Contest in 1972. After a first single that remained unnoticed in 1975, his second a single “Jingle me, jingle you” did it better in 1976. Their real breakthrough came in 1977 when their single “Mr. Captain” reached number 9 in the charts in Austria. That same year they released their first self-titled album.
In 1978 they were internally selected to represent Austria in the Eurovision Song Contest. They presented two songs: “Mrs. Caroline Robinson” and “Honey bye, bye”, the first being chosen and the second being B-side of the corresponding single. Although the song was not a success in Eurovision, it became a golden disc in Austria.
After the contest the band released the album Lonely road. They released a single in 1979, “Queen of New York”, which was unsuccessful. The trio split up after this song.
Norbert Niedermayer also represented Austria in the Eurovision Song Contest in 1972, as a member of The Milestones
