Biography

Seija Simola was a Finnish hit singer and lyricist. She started her career when she was 18 and sang as a soloist with several orchestras. Her debut single was ”Kun hämärtää” / ”Suurkaupungin valot” in 1966. In 1969, she released a couple of singles of Italian origin.
Seija Simola was a popular artist throughout the 1970s. She occasionally recorded pop music, such as the well-known Abba songs “Waterloo” and “Fernando”, to which the singer herself  added Finnish lyrics. The biggest successes were “Maritza” and “Et itkeä saa Argentiina”. In the 1970s, Seija Simola also sang with Pepe & Paradise and the Vocal Ensemble in Fyrka, whose recordings were frequently played on the radio. The children’s song “Pippuri ja unikko” is probably the most wellknown song.
In 1978, Simola represented Finland in the Eurovision Song Contest with the song “Anna rakkaudelle tilaisuus”. The song was ranked 18th. The bad score at Eurovision affected the singer’s popularity and record sales and gigs declined.
In the 1980s, Seija Simola recorded two albums that featured disco-popping beats. “Ei rakastaa voi tämän enempää” from 1984 remained the singer’s last hit. In 1986 she released a new album. The album was Simola’s last one. The single “Sateenvarjo” often played on the radio.
In 2011, Seija Simola lost her singing voice in an operation that damaged her vocal cords. In this case, he also withdrew from publicity and barely gave interviews. She passed away 21 august 2017.
