Biography

Dora is a Portuguese singer, born in Lisbon. Her singing career started when a family friend encouraged her to participate in the Portuguese singing contest ‘Cinderella’. She did not win the contest but the selection committee  invited her to sing “Não sejas mão p’ra mim” at the RTP Festival da canção 1986, the national selection for the Eurovision Song Contest. She won and represented Portugal in the contest. She released several follow up singles, “Easy”and “Our Love”. “Easy” is part of the soundtrack of the soap opera “Corpo Santo” of Rede Manchete and a maxi single was released in Brazil. In July 1987 the single “Já Dei” is released. In March 1988 she won “1º Prémio Nacional de Música” with the song “Déjà Vu”. The winning song of this contest would participate in the RTP Festival da canção, however the song chosen to compete in the Eurovision Festival was “Voltarei”, also Dora’s. That means, she represented Portugal in the Eurovision Song Contest for a second time. She played in the musical “Enfim Sós”, and it is in this piece that she met her husband, Jorge Paiva. They even interrupted the performances in the play for their honeymoon. In 1990 Dora participated in the OTI Festival with the song “Quero acordar”. Dora and her husband went to live in Brazil and returned in 2001. She participated in the soundtrack of the soap opera “Lusitana Paixão” and later performed in several shows at Casino Estoril..
